Closest Beach / Best route to Pacific Ocean from Lake Havasu
We are leaving for Lake Havasu tomorrow and would like to make it to the Pacific coast at least one day, as never been. Realize its a 5 hour drive, so will have to spend the night. Wondering what the most scenic route would be there / back and what beach you would recommend for a family of 5 with 3 small children. Keep in mind, we have been to Florida beaches, so would like see something unique to California.
Also, I have been googling things to do in the Lake Havasu area like crazy! Is Oatman a cool little adventure for kids? Any other suggestions? We do plan on going to the Grand Canyon.
Thanks in advance!

It's more like 6 hours with traffic. San Diego is probably your best bet via Route 78 and I-8. Head for La Jolla, and even if you don't go in the water, you'll be able to enjoy the ocean, though this is a punishing trip with 3 little kids. I'd make sure I got a very early start.

I agree head south to La Jolla where the kids can see sea lions up close on the rocks at the La Jolla Cove or go to the Children's Pool also in La Jolla to see the seals on the sand.
But to be honest if you are going to the Grand Canyon as well as spending time in Lake Havasu I'd skip the beach in California this trip. Do you really want to be in the car for 5-6 hours with pretty desolate desert scenery? I've done the trip from Joshua Tree/Yucca Valley many times and it's not the most pleasant trip IMHO.
The ocean temps are in the low 60's high 50's in southern California.

Maybe accept -- Lake Havasu isn't really a convenient base for much sightseeing much. The coast will be 6 hours, the GC about 4 hours (not a great day trip spending 8+ hours in the car).
My guess is you are in a time share/resort for a week right? If so, I'd just make the best of the activities on-site.

Take the kids to Circus Circus in Las Vegas. https://www.circuscircus.com/amenities/pool.aspx
Leaving Las Vegas see Hoover Dam on the way to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.
