Hi there,

I'm thinking about choosing a Cirque du Soleil show during our stay in Las Vegas. I'm not a huge fan, but it just seems wrong not to go to one while there! From reading all the reviews, I don't think there is a general consensus on which is "best," just different perspectives. Personally, from what I've seen on TV, they all seem pretty much the same to me.

Could someone give me a quick recap of the schtick for each show?
It seems to me that:
O=Water
Ka=Fire
Zumanity=Nudity
Love=Beatles
Mystere-?
Reve-Not Cirque du Soleil?
Questions:
Are there any story lines?
What's the music with each?
Which has the most incredible staging?
Which is in the nicest venue?

We'd also like to see one other show while there. Does anyone know if Bette Midler or Barry Manilow will be there late April? If not, should we go with Celine or Phantom of the Opera? (We see and enjoy plenty of theatre in New England, but not usually concert artists.)

How about that group called Scintas? Any good?

Ka has a storyline of sorts. I just saw Love on Christmas and loved it. Any of the shows are great, but Love immersed me in the experience the most.

I also just found that Barry Manilow is scheduled to be there when we are. Has anyone seen his show? How does it compare to Celine Dion's?
Any other input greatly appreciated.

I'll be really blunt. From your comments I think it seems clear that you won't find any Cirque show worth the "more than $100" a ticket it will cost. If you are aware that O is all in water and Zumanity is all about "nudity" (it's not) but are convinced they all seem pretty much the same, then frankly I think the shows will be wasted on you, and your money will be wasted on them.

While I'm not a fan of Barry Manilow, I have yet to hear from any fan of his who doesn't RAVE about his stage shows. He certainly does "hold" and "thrill" an audience.

We've been to Las Vegas many times and have another trip coming up in a couple of weeks. We've never felt the need to pay the $$$$ for any of the Cirque Soleil shows. Not really our taste.

We have tickets for Phantom. We've seen Jubliee, Folies Bergere, Mama Mia, Splash, and several others that are no longer there.

There are lots of peoples trip reports with these shows at www.casinotripreports.com. If you have never been to a Cirque show, definately do Mystere, the orginal.

Phantom does not compare to the Cirque shows. I've seen all the Vegas Cirque shows and several of the traveling shows in both the USA and Europe.

The best Cirque shows are O, Mystere and LOVE. In my opinion they are worth the price of the tickets. However, Cirque is now becoming overhyped and overextended and after you've seen several of the shows (or most) they become a bit redundant.

We just returned from Vegas and also wondered which Cirque show to see. We saw Mystere at Treasure Island and thought it was a great introduction to the Cirque shows. The theater is nice in that we got the lowest level tickets and thought our seats were great. The theater is small enough that I don't think there is really a bad seat. We were fairly close to the action. Some might disagree, but I really didn't think there was too much of a plot or a story line...however, I thought the music was very, very good. I enjoyed all of the performers, but I really liked listening to the music as well. We enjoyed the show and had a good time, and for us the price was good, especially compared to the others. We have also seen Mamma Mia at Mandalay Bay and loved it. I liked the music and the story line to that one. Have a great trip.

We saw O and set in the balcony which was really cool because you could see down into the water pool. We liked it and didn't mind paying the $$$$. You're on vaca so sometimes it's fun to see something you wouldn't normally see. Vegas shows are pricey. Enjoy your trip to sin city!!

We've seen both Ka and O. My 13 year old son loved Ka I think mostly because of the fighting and particularly the fire. O was wonderful. We all completely enjoyed it. I saw it twice (different years) and noticed that it got a standing ovation both times...Ka was a sort of standing thing. My Mom fell asleep during Ka. I nodded off a bit. O kept my attention thru the whole thing. The story line of any cirque shows are difficult to follow, but who cares if it is entertaining?
On Manilow. I like him also. Wouldn't go see him in a show, but I have heard (from his fans) that the show is very entertaining and they are glad they went.

I've seen Cirque shows in NY and "O" and Mystere in Vegas. Definitely see "O". I found Mystere the most boring of them all. "O" is something totally different from any show you will see.

OP here. I decided to book O, but it is dark Mon & Tues - the two days I have available!!! Back to the drawing board...

When I talked to a representative at the Wynn, she said that Le Reve is a Cirque du Soleil show. I thought I read on Fodors that it "really is not." It would have been one of my top choices, especially since everyone raves about the theatre itself, but I really want a true Cirque experience.

What do you think?

I think even a veteran Cirque du Soleil viewer (like me) would have a hard time telling it isn't officially a Cirque show. It is sooooooo similar in every way.

You mentioned Celine so I'll chime in... Although I'm not a big Celine fan, her show really is worth it. She puts on a great show. Mama Mia is also a good show, if you like Abba at all.
No real story line in the Cirque shows, just silliness and fun. We like 'em.

Not in love with Cirque du Soleil, but my SO is...thus we go. I suggest not going to a 10:30 show...too late.

That being said, next Sunday we are going to Le Reve at the Wynn... :-? anyone seen it?

I would like to see a "Cheesy Vegas Type" show...something where our tickets are buy one get one free...something that is funny...any recommendations? 8-)

If you are a Beatles fan, You will be pleased with Love. If you like ribald humor and some nudity, Zumanity will entertain you. I agree with the earlier post if you are looking for a Cirque intro with more of a circus feel, Mystere at Treasure Island is a good choice. If you haven't done one live, you should. TV doesn't really translate.
