Christmas in Savannah
My husband and I will be in Savannah, GA, during Christmas. Need suggestions on what to see, places to eat (would any restaurants be open on Christmas Day?), and midnight (literally midnight!) Christmas Eve services, any denomination.
Thanks,
maryfalin

My favorite church for Christmas Eve service would be Christ Church. They have not posted their Dec services yet -

My favorite restaurant is nearby - The Pink House

I'd call to see if they are open on Christmas and make a reservation

Starrs, many thanks for your superb suggestions. I called the church and the Pink House; there will be a midnight service, and the Pink House will be open on Christmas Day! I'll check the calendar links for further information on things to do while in Savannah.

Do not miss the bar at the Pink House called the Planters Bar. Cozy intimate room with a piano player. Have your dessert down there
We also ate a great italian restaurant while there last month, Garibaldi's. Beautiful room with gold accents and mirrors everywhere. I'm not a huge Italian food person, but my fish was excellent.

I agree with Garibaldi's. It's my #2 spot on the rare occasion that the Pink House is not available. They are managed by the same group so any of the Dining Group South restaurants are winners -

I love the tavern downstairs too. Sometimes we go early and have a drink and even an appetizer if the reservation is for a late time, or go down afterwards for coffee and dessert. It's especially nice when the big fires are burning and Gail Thurmond is playing the grand piano. Very nice. Be careful going down the outside stairs in winter. We don't have a lot of buildings that date back to the 1700's and it's wonderful to imagine the history that building has seen.

Cathedral of St. John the Baptist (RC) can be SRO unless you are early.
In addition to Pink House, Sapphire Grill, Cha Bella's, Local 1011, and Elizabeth's on 37th are top notch. I'd be surprised if open on Xmas day.

Thanks for all the great restaurant suggestions! We'll be in Savannah a few days, so you've given us some wonderful choices. Another question, for Christmas Eve: I've seen mixed reviews on the Savannah dinner boat cruise, would appreciate your opinions. Offhand, I think not, as my husband and I are in the mood more for quiet, together time than for a party/dance atmosphere.

We loved Savannah on our visit there several years ago. I put together a file while planning our trip and would be happy to send you a copy if you'd like. E-mail me at [email protected]
I imagine Savannah is gorgeous at Christmastime. We got an e-mail the other day from the Ballastone Inn where we stayed. What a place!

Reservations at Pink House tomorrow. Giovanna, meant to send for your suggestions/trip report, but the time just slipped away. Thanks so much! Just have to find the Geraldine's Bodacious Cheese Straws! Happy Holidays to all.
