We are an Irish couple in our late 50's who are spending our fourth Christmas in Naples. This year we want to eat out on Christmas day. Suggestions please for a nice restaurant (where we don't have to dress formally, nor too casually), and which has nice food and really friendly atmosphere. We're staying within walking distance of 5th Avenue.

But you will have a hard time finding something open on Christmas day, You might have to go non-christian ethnic like Asian.
It's time for the local paper here in Naples to print up the "what's open on Christmas Day". I remember going through this last year, but now forget what is and isn't open. I'll try to do some checking for you and get back to you. I do know that most of the hotel dining rooms are open -- but mostly those may be more formal than you are looking for. I'll see what's open in the Fifth Avenue area, and post back as soon as I can.
Check if the Ridgeway Bar and Grill is open.
Oops, sorry, the Turtle place is pretty far from 5th Ave.
Thanks all. Sobster, thanks for info on Ridgeway Bar and Grill. We actually ate there last year - no complaints, but just wondered what else is out there! NeoPatrick - you've helped me before. We actually went to Stoneys (spelling ok?) a couple of years ago, but were very disappointed with the attitude of the staff - get them in and get them out - it's not because of their attitude/treatment that we keep returning to Naples every Christmas. Again, thanks all and we'll keep watching this spot!!
irishk, somewhere on here from a long time back was my report on Stoney's about how they used to limit your time at the table even when it was their fault it was so slow. They actually told us once we couldn't finish our meal or have dessert. Amazing.
No definitive answer yet, but Open Table is already doing Christmas Day reservations for the following -- the only one near or on Fifth though is Bice, which really isn't a bad idea if you want to do Italian.
McCormick and Schmicks
Shula's Steak House
M Waterfront
Strip House at Naples Grand
All three restaurants at the Ritz Carlton Gulf
Baleen at LaPlaya
I'm sure there will be others, but a friend who works at Pazzo on Fifth said the ONLY two open last year on Fifth were Bice and Trilogy (which is now gone).
I guess it is good we ate at Trilogy last year then!
Thank you all for your replies. We are doing our research on each option suggested by you so we now know we are going to be able to make a reservation before we leave Ireland on 21 December. NeoPatrick, giving advice on Fodors must be a 24/7 commitment for you??!!
Actually I've been spending very little time here lately.
Is 'George and the Dragon' open on Christmas ?
No, it's not.
But it has always been my standard Christmas Eve dinner place -- so Olde English, festive, Christmas decorations, etc.
