Chicago/Naval Base Transpo - ASAP
Help please -
I am trying to figure out how to get from the Metra station to the Naval Base on Friday. I can't find anything telling me the distance between the two, how to get from one to the other, etc...
I want to be prepared in case we have to take a cab.
I am actually contemplating not driving to Chicago, so I have to figure out how to get around.
Any experts on the trains in Chi town, especially around the Great Lakes Base?
Thanks!
K

Hi, Kassanna -
I guess that depends on where, exactly, on the base you need to go and what distances you consider to be walkable. I think there is a shuttle bus, but I'm not sure. Maybe you could contact the base, or maybe someone else on this forum has more information. Good luck!

It's doable (walking), but there are cabs right there at the metra station and it's just a couple of bucks as it is very close to the base itself (across the street), but not sure how close it is to the buildings where graduation will be taking place.
I was there this time last year and stayed in Deerfield and rented a car, so we went in the front gate and had to park just inside. I believe the metra is on the other side of the base.
We took the metra into Chicago. Keep in mind, depending on where you catch it will determine which station you will pull into once in Chicago. I'll go back through my notes and will repost the site for the metra and the info regarding the one that you will catch at the Naval Base to get into Chicago and at which station you will arrive.

Here's the link to the route from the Naval Base. The main station that you will go to in Chicago is Ogillvie. You can navigate through this site to see the different stations, the different stops each metra line makes and which station is goes to in Chicago.
