Chicago: what are people wearing right now? (early fall)
Sorry to ask a 'what to wear' question, but this transitional season leaves me wondering. I'll be in Chicago next weekend (Sept 30-Oct 3) Have people generally switched over to fall clothes? Here in SC, it's still the dead of summer, I'm wearing shorts, sundresses, flip-flops.
But having made the mistake once of going to NYC w/ nothing but summer clothes, I thought I'd check. The weather is expected to range from hi 40s to low 70s....so could be anything. Is it time for suede boots? Shall I bring my shearling? I have to go to a party in a cocktail dress, so the trusty layering w/ a jeans jacket is difficult.
Thanks so much!

It really depends on the weather which is completely unpredicable this time of year. It was almost 90 and humid yesterday and is 60 today.
I'd advise checking the forecast just before you leave.
Bring an umbrella just in case. On the 60-ish days, some people are wearing their suede boots and fall clothing (fall colors/sweaters, etc). You see other folks throwing a sweater over their summer stuff. I think this time of year it depends on if people have pulled out their cold season stuff (most people switch out their closets each season).
When it's about 60, I am in a fall dress or pants/long sleeves for work or a more dressy event. If it's weekend casual, I am in jeans and a sweater.
Definitely bring clothes you can layer and comfortable shoes.
Have a fun time!

What Gina says.
For the past week I've just been wearing capris and summer sandals to work. In the morning, a light jean jacket also, but usually don't need it going home.
Although the other day when I thought it was still fairly warm, I saw a woman wearing a black leather jacket , so everybody's different.
