Trip Report Chicago Trip Report: 2 Couples, 3 Nights

Jump to last reply

My husband and I celebrated our 7th anniversary last week in the Windy City accompanied by good friends. It was a great trip and not nearly long enough. Thanks for the itinerary feedback on this board. Here's what we saw and did - in a nutshell:

Tue 5/29 - L from O'Hare & Midway to the Hampton Inn & Suites on Illinois; early dinner at Lou Malnati's, Smith Stained Glass Museum & ferris wheel at Navy Pier; walked to the Hancock for cocktails & dessert in the Signature Lounge

Wed 5/30 - Field Museum; L to Wrigley; lunch at the Cubby Bear; Cubs vs Padres; bus to Lincoln Park Zoo; dinner at Sable and blues at Blue Chicago

Thu 5/31 - Breakfast at XOCO; "Hyde Park & Obama's Chicago" walking tour with Chicago Greeter (highlight of the trip); lunch in Hyde Park at Valois; Wendella Architectural Boat Tour; dinner at Frontera Grill (with reservations made 8 weeks ago) and jazz at the Green Mill (another highlight)

Fri 6/1 - Shedd Aquarium, Buckingham Fountain, Millenium Park, lunch at the Gage, popcorn at Garrett's and souvenirs for the kids at American Girl. L back to our respective airports and home to Dallas by bedtime.

Having close to 100 degree weather back home the day before we arrived in Chicago made us appreciate the cool temps even more!

We purchased 3 day CTA passes when we arrived and were given a 1 day Fun Card by our greeter which we waited to activate until the final day when our passes had expired. We took the L and buses everywhere (including back from the Green Mill at midnight) and found the system easy to use.

There was much that we didn't see, but I did feel like we got a good overview and have all the more reasons to return! Our tour with Alan of Chicago Greeter was fantastic and we can't recommend it enough.

That's it - thanks again for the trip planning help.
