Chicago to Appleton, WI how to....

Now i may have to do Chicago to Appleton, WI for work.
I am not comfortable driving by myself.I've tried to find a train, bus, shuttle...... but am not having any luck.

Flights are ridiculous like 1000 !!!! There is not a lot of lead time under 2 weeks.

Any ideas from my favorite Fodors Forumers?

You could take a bus or train from Chicago to Milwaukee.

There is a bus that runs from Milwaukee to Appleton but it takes 3 hours.

OMG janisj suggested Amtrak!
Hiawatha trains 331 and 333 with connecting buses will work for you. Can you make the 10:20 train (333)?

Wow! Not sure why, but driving is certainly the easiest. Its only 3+ hours, pretty much straight north. The roads are good and there are plenty of places to stop along the way. Even if you take the train/bus option, you'll need a car to get around Appleton.

tom: I ain't anti train

When they make sense trains . . . make sense (I even take a train down to Emeryville/SF now and then). In this case the OP doesn't want to drive so the train/bus is the best option.

( Isn't often the case )
