Chicago Restaurant -Chinese & Japanese

This is our first time to Chicago and would like to try different ethnic restaurants...have read all the other messages, but would like a recommendation for really good Chinese, as well as Japanese (moderate price)restaurants

I know it's not one of the ethnicities you mention, but the Greek Isles (several locations in Chicago) was GREAT!! We don't have much Greek food here in Texas, and I was very impressed.

I haven't been but friends have recommended Japonais, 600 W. Chicago, to me for Japanese. Here's a link to the Chicago Tribune review

My forays into Chinese dining recently have all been dim sum down in Chinatown but if you are looking for something a little more upscale you might take a look at Opera, 1301 S. Wabash (outside the tourist area, you will need to take a cab)

or Red Light, 820 W. Randolph, which is Chinese, Thai, etc (also a little outside the tourist area)

For a little less expensive dinner you could also try Ben Pao, 52 W. Illinois, for Chinese

Opera is a great asian influnced restruant.

Mirai Sushi on west Division is my favorite sushi place (owed by the same people that own Japonase - which I also reccomennd)

If you head to japonase make a reservation at least a week in advance

Ben Pao is also a pretty good chinese place right near michigan ave

For a neighborhood Japanese place, try Itto Sushi at 2616 N.Halsted. It's in the Lincoln Park neighborhood, about a mile north of Steppenwolf Theatre. Kuni's in Evanston is another good suggestion, if you ever venture north. Both of these have moderately priced meals.
