Chicago pub or restaurant suggestion
Can you recommend a good location for a group hospitality event near the Convention Center? The event : low budget, drinks and heavy apps, private room if possible. Thank you.

There is very little around McCormick Place except the Hyatt which is connected.
Will you be staying at downtown hotels? If so, there are literally hundreds of places. You can check www.metromix.com or www.chicagoreader.com and search by neighborhood.

Hi cmcfong,
Almost any mid-priced - high-priced restaurant can set up a "private room" situation. Unfortunately, McCormick Place is off Lake Shore Drive and far from the loop or the Magnificent Mile or River North where the larger restaurants are.
If you're asking more for location, I'd keep your search to "south loop" restaurants.
Nicer places I like - The Gage, Trattoria No. 10, the Italian Village restaurants, Petterino's.
A more laid-back, budget sort of place -- and perhaps would play to a feeling of more "old-timey" Chicago would be Miller's Pub on South Wabash beneath the el tracks.

Or maybe look at Kitty O'Sheas at the Chicago Hilton on South MIchigan Ave. The lobby is gorgeous, and the bar is right on Michigan Ave. Could be an option.
My company hosted a small get-together at Joe's Seafood and Steak in an upstairs private room. VEry nice. ANy of the steakhouses could do this with drinks and appetizers.
Unfortunately, places in the loop or River North or Mag Mile are pricey. Possibly less-expensive places would be Lincoln Park, West Loop, Greektown -- but would require taxis (or a shuttle bus if you're moving in a group).
Good luck with the planning!

Oh... just saw in another thread.
CHeck out the Lettuce Entertain You Restaurants. All well-liked places with wide-appeal cuisine/drinks/environments.

I think both places would do a nice job for you. They're both very similar sorts of bars - they're sports bars, kinda "ex-frat boy, suburban & tourists in for the weekend" places to go for a drink or bar food in a lively setting. They skew male... women may not like the atmosphere as much. I see business travelers here, too -- folks who don't have the time/energy to hunt down a place with a more sophisticated menu.
They're both in the Streeterville neighborhood - east of Michigan Ave, between 400-900 north, which is full of Northwestern Memorial Hospital buildings, hotels, high-rise condos/rental apartments.
Locals/after-work crowd might opt for places a little less busy -- but these two bars are busy places, and, I imagine, are used to groups. Of the two - P.J. Clarks would be better. The sign for Timothy O'Toole's has an illustration of a lush passed-out on the bar.
Hope that helps!
