When (what date) do they unveil their holiday window decorations?
Thanks

I believe its done mid to late November - www.chicagomagazine.com might have the exact date. This year I know some of the windows (if not all) are Charlie and the Chocolate Factory themed and I think the big tree is all crystal ornaments.

The weekend before Thanksgiving is the formal unveiling although they are often opened sooner. There is also a huge holiday parade on the Saturday before Thanksgiving where they "turn on" the lights in the city.

The parade referred to above is on Michigan Avenue. The tree in the Daley Center is lit the day after Thanksgiving.

There is also Marshall Fields' Jingle Elf parade which I believe is either on Thanksgiving or Thanksgiving weekend but I'm not sure about that date. It runs along State Street in front of Fields.

I can't wait to see the decorations this year!

The Magnificent Mile Parade is November 22 at 6:00 p.m. The next weekend are a number of other holiday activities:

I'm a big fan of the Zoolights and Caroling with the Animals for kids at the Lincoln Park Zoo. Followed up by a terrific burger a couple of blocks over at RJ Grunts or by a unique dinner at nearby Chicago Pizza & Oven Grinder Co.

Don't forget the dozens of trees at the Museum of Science & Industry. http://www.msichicago.org/

And, another personal favorite:
Christkindlmarket Chicago 2003
Dates: November 27 - December 22
Hours:
Monday - Thursday: 11:00a.m. - 8:00p.m.
Friday and Saturday: 11:00a.m. - 9:00p.m.

Daley Center Plaza & Block 37
Dearborn and Washington Streets
312-664-2662

Browse through this special holiday shopping marketplace that combines a delightful German tradition with international flair and local specialties including wooden toys, Christmas cookies and more. After shopping, stop by the heated refreshment pavilions to relax.

More info than you asked for, but Chicago at holiday time is my favorite place to be.
