Cheshire Lodge Reviews?
I am planning a trip to St. Louis and I was thinking of staying at the Cheshire Lodge because it seems family friendly and it seems to be close to Forest Park. Is it in walking distance to Forest Park? Or do you have to drive no matter what to Forest Park? Does anyone have any reviews of this hotel?

It is a cozy and interesting hotel. Last time I was there the restauratns were under renovation and you had to eat elsewhere.
I think it has a very British feeling, ots of antiques in the lobby and artifacts that are fun to look at. The piano has a fireplace and is also cozy.
You can walk to Forest Park- the west end of the park is very close - however most of the attractions are further in - it would be a nice walk.
Have fun!

Forest Park is big. It's almost 1300 acres, ~500 acres larger than Central Park in New York. The best way to see it is on a bicycle.
Rental place is just down the hill at touring cyclist,

and I think mesa cycles a block further.
If that doesn't appeal to you, there are buses that can take you by some of the museums, with a transfer and/or some walking. www.metrostl.org

Agreed with the above. It's an interesting hotel, and definitely has a Brittish feel to it, but it is tired and in dire need of refurbishing. We stayed in one of the themed rooms a few years ago. The room itself was really cool at first glimpse, but definitely needed some updating.
I imagine you could find a nice hotel elsewhere. The Parkway Hotel is attached to Barnes Hospital. It's only a block from the park and near lots of restaurants and cafes. I've never stayed there but had clients stay there and they liked it just fine. There is also the Chase Park Plaza, although that may be too expensive depending on your budget.
You don't have to have a car, although I think St. Louis is much better with a car. But if you stay along the metrolink route in downtown, or with close proximity to the park, you should be fine without one. I agree that you will probably want a bike though. Forest Park is very, very big.
Best wishes,
Tracy
