Cherry blossom-Washington D.C hotel pick?

I'm going to DC this weekend. Which is the best hotel to stay when I want to walk to the Washington monument as well as see the cherry blossoms? I'm thinking Rennaissance Mayflower hotel? How is that one or need more suggestions.
Thanks-Preeya

I thought I saw a photo in last Sunday's NY Times that the cherry blossoms were winding down, especially with a recent heavy rain storm - hope for your sake I am wrong and that someone with recent personal experience will refute NYTimes.

My friend in Washington called today and mentioned that the cherry blossoms had dwindled.

The Loew's L'Enfant Plaza is very convenient for the mall area, including the Washington Monument and the various Smithsonian museums.

preeya - to answer your question, the Mayflower is beautiful. It's a great location - walking distance to the monuements as well as Dupont Circle, which has great restaurants and bars.

However, as others have said, the cherry blossoms peaked last week, and with the rain we got, and are expected to get over the next few days, there won't be much of them to see by this weekend.

The Tidal Basin is still pretty, but I just wanted to let you know.

The Mayflower is fine. As mentioned, it is close to many good restaurants and is a nice place. Also, it is a block from the metro. I personally would AVOID Loew's L'Enfant Plaza. It's convenience and proximity to the Mall and museums is far outweighed by the the dull as dirt neighborhood it resides in. The L'Enfant plaza area has zero ambience. While perfectly safe and has a metro stop, it is basically huge blocks of gargantuan faceless gov't office bldgs. This are NO restaurant/shopping/street scene at all. In fact many people that end up there are reduced to eating overpriced mediocre hotel food - a crying shame considering what DC has to offer. You are much better off taking metro or taxi to the sights and staying in a nicer/livlier area. Sorry to go on. Go with the Mayflower.
