Like to go somewhere: not alot of money & am already "burned out from wrk". Thinking of spiritual retreats West Coast near the ocean: don't want to be converted but just want someplace cheap & clean & safe for some alone me time & maybe walks, quiet reading, some nice grounds.
Anyone got any ideas? Do any of the Missions run any sort of program where you can stay & be left in peace?

Do a search for Questhaven in CA
Mission San Antonio offers rooms & retreats:

Although surrounded by Hunter Liggett military reservation, the mission is way out in the middle of nowhere, and looks like time passed it by. Very peaceful. Normally, you'd drive in from the east, but the road from the coast is beautiful, although a bit scary!
Our family used to vacation at the old Hearst hunting lodge that is part of the nearby Military base. I've always wanted to go back and stay at San Antonio.
Txs much. Esalen looks very interesting & I would get Nurse CEU credits..another money saver!
Anyone think of another spot in Southern CAlifornia?
a lot of 4-5 * hotels for cheap right now..expedia is a good base to determine price.
hotel la jolla shores oceanfront has a mid week for $139 a night.
really like rancho la puerta in tecate, mexico.talk about a great spiritual retreat but its not cheap.
There is a place in San Luis Obispo but, just shoot me, I cannot remember the name.. May not be that inexpensive.

There must be something in Ojai. Try googling.
I did try Google and did not not come up with much..also researched Fodors and 0 came up.
Prefer to ask Fodorites.. have been helpful in sharing their experiences in travel which is why this Forum is so much more valued than Google to me.
Appreciate Rancho La Puerte in Mexico but am firmly staying in CA or Wash or ORegon & prefer something on teh ocean,,, My last adventure across the border was a Steven King novel...
Green Gulch Farm, a Zen center just north of San Francisco, offers rooms with 3 meals a day ($85 for a single) with or without Zen practice. You can stay there without participating, or help with the farm if you like.

It is not right on the ocean, but a bit above it, near Muir Beach. Lots of trails to explore in the area (Muir Woods, the beach, and Mt. Tamalpais).
I think a Yurt at Treebones in Big Sur would be the perfect, cheap vacation to give you that major spiritual vibe to make your soul a happy one.

If you are ever interested in East Coast, check out Marywood Retreat Center in Jacksonville, Florida. They have a website: info@marywoodcenter.org. Beautiful, peaceful place and you have a choice of retreats or on your own.
For something REALLY cheap, consider one of the hostels on the coast... Pigeon Point and Montara (in the Bay Area) are both at pretty lighthouses. You can either stay in a dorm/bunk for around $20-30 a night or try to book a private room which is still really cheap. Both hostels are clean and safe and in beautiful locations, and located close to small towns should you need anything. I spent a weekend by myself at the Montara hostel, reading, walking, etc, and felt like I'd been on vacation for a month.
Green Gulch is so beautiful, quiet, inexpensive..you can walk through their gardens to the Pacific Ocean. It is really lovely. Rooms are not always available..try to reach them. It is well worth the effort. Meals from their garden are yummy and included in the rate. (or used to be) Good luck and happy New Year.
