At SouthPark on Piedmont Row there is Georges--nice French bistro.
When I pull up Google to see where that is (thought it might be further intown) I see Nana's Soul Food kitchen right there--know nothing about it.
Mac's Speed Shop is WELL known for its BBQ--a "biker bar" owned by a restauranteur here who is a biker. REALLY good BBQ and VERY locally owned. South Blvd. near Woodlawn--turn left toward uptown on South--it's on the right.
Our favorite Vietnamese is on South near Tyvola --Saigon Palace.
See what else comes to mind.
If you ever need a place near SouthPark to stay, give the Residence Inn there a try. Nice folks/place.
If you want a fine dining experience with local chef, try Good Food on Montford (near Park Road Shopping Center), Zebra near SouthPark, Baku, also across from SP. Parking is easy for these--not in the mall.
Best seafood is at Upstream at Phillips Place, just past SP. These are all locally owned.

Thanks, Gretchen. I know Nana's and Upstream. Both good ideas.
I like te Residence Inn, but have chosen the Hyatt because with the shuttle and free parking, it is perfect for early am flights.

But wait, there's more!! Just picked up some scrips at SP and smelled the wood fired oven at Rooster's--good food--and maybe a little "pubbish". It is one of Jim Noble's 3 restaurants in Charlotte==two roosters and in city center, The King's Kitchen. The latter is his and his wife's "mission" in Charlotte. They train homeless and underemployed people in the restaurant business, and give 100&% of the profits to the poor. AND the food is EXCELLENT==good southern home cooking. You can get true pan fried chicken.

Just to confirm - Rooster's at SouthPark will be easier to get to than the one downtown. It's larger, probably noisier (and less pub like) than the one downtown, but getting there and parking will be easier.
