Charleston, SC: Affordable accommodation near Francis Marion Hotel?
Hello all: I have recently become aware of a conference I would like to attend in Charleston, SC. I live overseas currently so would like to extend my stay by a few days to see the area. The conference will be held at the Francis Marion Hotel at 387 King Street. Apparently there was a block of rooms reserved but according to the hotel website there are no more available. Could someone recommend affordable accommodation for a single traveller that is within easy walking distance from this hotel? I am happy to stay in a hostel, guesthouse or B&B, and would like to pay less than $100 a night if possible. I apologize for my ignorance, I am in the process of familiarizing myself with the layout of Charleston etc but as this is rapidly approaching (Oct. 8 or 9 - 14th) I'd appreciate any information you may have.
Thanks
Carrie
Thanks

The King George IV B&B is relatively near the hotel, I think - just a few blocks and is one of the more reasonably priced accommodations. Advertised rates are $89 - $189. Less than $100 a night in Charleston will be difficult in October, IMO.

I think Thomas6 is referring to the Best Western King George Inn--not necessarily a B&B, but good accomodations and near Frances Marion. Book online through http://www.kingcharlesinn.com/

No, I meant the King George IV B&B, www.kinggeorgeiv.com. It is a bed and breakfast, not a motel, and I have stayed there. Decent accommodations and well priced for Charleston. It is on George near Meeting Street about three blocks away from the Francis Marion hotel.
