Central Park
We visited US ten years ago with an organized tour and we enjoyed a lot - it was a tour from E coast to W coast, the itinerary was choosen by our son who finished then the high school.
Now, we want to make another visit but not with a tour. First of all, we want to visit again NY, to have more time to walk, for museums, for some shows, etc.
I would want to know if it is safe to walk in Central Park (during the day) alone? I understand that it is a nice place, with some sstatues, lakes, etc. How can I find a map of the park (I know that it is very big), so I can plan to see what I would like?

Yes, the park is safe, just use the same common sense you'd use anyplace. Stay on the paths and other visible aeras; don't go in the woods and you'll be fine.
Most of the sites below have lots of useful information, including maps. My favorite area is the Conservatory Gardens, along Fifth Avenue around 102nd St.

Central Park is perfectly safe. But - just like anywhere else I wouldn;t walk alone into deserted alleys - or woody areas - in the middle of the night.
Most days in summer your only danger is being trampled by the hordes of other tourists - or locals, jogging, biking, riding or just wandering.
The Park has a small but interesting zoo (the real one is in the Bronx) several lakes and resevoirs (you can rent boats to row) one beautiful but awful restaurant (Tavern on the Green) and one pretty, less expensive one with pleasant food (the Boathouse), a great carousel.
Also several of the major museums are either in the park (the Met) or right across the street from it (Natural History, guggenheim, Frick etc).
