Cedar Point, Ohio

My husband, daughter and I are thinking of going to Cedar Point this summer. Where is the best place to stay without it costing a fortune? How is the park itself? Has anyone ever rented a cabin at the campground?

I have relatives in nearby Toledo, so I grew up going to Cedar Point. I can't speak to lodging because I always stay with my relatives, but I can tell you that the park itself is outstanding. It has some of the best rollercoasters in the country. In fact there is an article in today's Chicago Tribune (www.chicagotribune.com) by Julia Keller in the Tempo section about the park's new rollercoaster, the Millennium Force. Overall I think Cedar Point is one of the best amusement parks in the country and also one of the most affordable.

FYI, my daughter was there on Friday as part of a high school trip.
The wait for Millenium was 4 hours. Other coaster wait times averaged 1.5 hours.
Great park for coasters. not as nice overall as King's Island, also in Ohio. The proximity to the Lake is great, take advantage of that. Take a ferry to the Lake Erie islands.

Mary,

You did not mention how old your daughter was, but it really does not matter, Cedar Point has been voted "THE" "BEST" Amusement part in the world 2 years in a row by Amusement Today.
I live in Michigan so I am not familiar with lodging, but my advise is to get your tickets in advance through AAA they offer good discounts, go on a weekday if possible, the longest lines are on the weekends, stay 2 days if possible. They also have a water park called Soak City, but it is almost impossible to do both in one day.

We have been taking our girls there since they were 2, there is something for everyone.

Have a great time, it is by far the best park for rides you will ever visit.

Cedar Point is much better to Kings Island. It doesn't even compare coater to coaster. Try to go through the week if you have a choice it is a little less crowded. Hit the bigger rides first thing as soon as the parks opens.
If you wait until later, it just gets more and more crowded.

You will have lines at either of them.
We have stayed at the Bayshore Campgrounds, one mile from the park.
They have an 800 number if you call
800 555 1212 I'm sure you can get it.
We usually tent camp and they will not take tent campers at the campground at the park.

Almost all of the hotels are pretty expensive during the summer. We usually try to get a AAA discount at the Radisson which is pretty nice.

We also have stayed at the Clarion at Sandusky Mall which is OK and a little less expensive.

Check out their web site:

www.cedarpoint.com

As for hotels, try the Port Clinton/Ottawa County area or Huron area. Call 1-800-Buckeye for more info. and I think they also give discount coupons.
