We stayed at the marriott Marquis. It was beautiful and right near Broadway shows. Ask for a room with a view of Times Square.
Sound of Music was wonderful! Lion King is another favorite.

We stayed across the street from Marriott Marquis at Doubletree Guest Suites and were quite satisfied. The Scarlet Pimpernel was a terrific show, beautiful costuming, scenery and music. This year we will see Chicago and Ragtime. Sardi's was great before the theatre...make reservations before you leave home. Almost all the hotels in the theatre district appeared to be very nice, don't think you could go too wrong.
You may wish to check out www.playbill.com for lots of information on all the Broadway Shows. If you want good seats for a specific show on a particular date, it's best to purchase them as far in advance as possible. Then, make your hotel reservations.
