car rental using carrental8?

Has anyone used www.carrental8.com or www.holidaycars.com to book a rental car? I need to book a van in canada as well as alaska and they seem to have the best rate (about 40-50% less than any other place) but since they are going to be pre-paid reservactions, and since I have not used them before, I am concerned.

Please let me know if you know more about these companies.

Thanks,

M

I was hoping their rates would top the ones I have found for August but they are $100 and $200 more, respectively.

Are the rentals for a U.S. citizen or for a non-citizen? When comparing rental rates for non-citizens, it is important to check whether all insurances and fees are included in the quote. Some companies add these on at pick-up time so their quote SEEMS lower, but really is not.

In the states I have never had the pleasure of all insurance fees included. Isn't that always extra?

linca...No, insurance is often included for non-citizens, depending on your country of residence. In some cases, a non-citizen can rent a car with all insurance included, at a lower rate than citizens pay without the insurance!

Did you ever get information about carrental8? I found what looks to be too good to be true rates for a car in Denver.

If it wouldn't be too much trouble, could you email me at [email protected] with any info that you got.

Thanks in advance,
Don

I got a car from them in early July for LA. Turned out it was a Dollar car and had no problems. I'll probably rent from them again as long as the prices are low.

I did have to pay taxes and other fees at the desk, but still came out cheaper.

Once, in July - and it will be the last time I ever do. The booking was very easy, but the after sales support is appalling. Despite phoning them 3 times (international roaming from my mobile phone) before returning my car to check a particular clause in my contract, I got slugged US$240 for acting in accordance with the advice they gave me.

After my return home, I queried the charge - each correspondence took 3-5 weeks before I had a response (and then often only after I sent follow-up enquries. After 5 months of frustration, I eventually gave up - the effort involved was costing more than the money they stole from me.

Two things that irked me:
1. I took the effort to phone them long distance to clarify one particular clause of our contract BEFORE making a decision. And it was their wrong advice on that same point that resulted in the extra charge.
2. After the fact their attitude and lack of customer service was among the worst I have ever experienced.

Never again.

Did you ever get the van in Canada? I am trying to get one in Vancouver, but Car Rental 8 says that supply is short with the Olympics (hence why I am going).

Sorry that the guy above had an issue. I've used them almost 10 times now for my travels and had only one problem, which I was able to resolve over the phone with them because the supplier tried to charge me for gas...which I did not have to pay for according to my contract. They then gave me a discount for my next rental and gave me a free upgrade (I asked what they could do to keep me as a customer). I used to rent through HotWire, but the inability to cancel and no refunds clause lead me to pay a little more (but not as much as the major brands are asking!)

I may be biased because of my experience...but I will always use them unless something happens for me to change.

STAY AWAY!!!!

Booking our car in Tampa, FL through Car Rental 8 in Feb 2013 was such a disappointing experience!

First, we fell for their low priced package only to realize after booking it that it was with a more than questionable car rental agency, OFF AIRPORT (which you also only find out after completing the booking). I tried to cancel my reservation immediately so they offered to upgrade to an in-airport better agency (Dollar) at the same price (plus higher in airport fees, which we agreed to because those fees apply to all in-airport car rentals with any company).

Before we picked up our car we wanted to make sure that all the details of the original package were still applicable to Dollar and contacted them but we never heard back from Car Rental 8. And, sure enough, when we picked up the car on location in the Tampa airport we are being told by Dollar that the second driver was NOT included in our rental. This cost us $99,90 extra. Unbelievable. A request to Car Rental 8 to refund this money went unanswered again.

The most unprofessional car rental experience ever. Never again. STAY AWAY!!!
