car rental NYC

Where can I rent a car in the city ? Will only have it for a day or two. Don't want to go out to the airport to pick up/drop off. Need to go out to Westchester. Yes, know about subways, taxis , and trains, but want the freedom of a car. Thanks !

Yes, but the car rental is extremely expensive in Manhattan, especially Friday to Sunday noon.

We rent often and usually get the best rate at Budget.

You can also take MetroNorth to White Plains and rent there.

There are many car rental locations all over Manhattan. Google is your friend. Search for car rental near your hotel.

One reason people don't rent in Manhattan is the cost. It usually costs at least $90 a night to rent a car in the city. If you go just outside of the city (to Hertz across from the Metro North Station in North White Plains, for instance, you'll save at least a third). But it's considerably cheaper to rent during the week. Weekend rates can be double weekday rates in Manhattan since most people in Manhattan do not own cars and rent them on weekends.

Both Hertz and Avis have offices on East 90th Street between York and 1st Avenue. It's easy to get onto the FDR from 90th Street and zip up to Westchester.

What day or two? Weekends are frightfully expensive, but you can often get a car for a day or two during the week quite cheap.
