Car Rental Age
My fiance and I will be honeymooning in Hawaii late July - early August (prob 10 days). At any rate, I've checked out all of the major car rental companies, and most state that they rent to the 21-24 yr old crowd for an additional $25/day fee, though a few restrict it to only those who are at least 25 years old. All of the 'vacation packages' I've seen from various companies (airlines, hotels, etc) that are air+car or hotel+car state that the renter must be at least 25 yrs old. In additoin, some travel websites have said that you must be at least 25yrs old to rent in Hawaii, despite the fact that many car rental companies say otherwise on their websites. Has anyone younger than 25 ever had a problem renting a car while in Hawaii? Are there any companies that don't charge a $25/dy additional fee for 21-24yr old drivers? My fiance (well, wife by then) and I will both be 23 at the time of the honeymoon. I am prelimarily planning on doing 2 days on Oahu (just to do Pearl Harbor and Honolulu stuff one day, and north shore stuff the next), 5 days on the Big Island, and 3-4 days on Maui. Thanks!

Just for fun I went to Enterprises web page and it looks to me like there's no extra charge for people age 21-24. When I tried to price it for age 18-20 it said that they will not rent to anyone in that age group. So I think you're OK w/Enterprise.

My daughter and her boyfriend just returned from Maui where they rented a car. She is 22, he is 23. They rented from Enterprise who doesn't usually charge a fee for 21-24 yr olds. They even called Enterprise in Maui direct to confirm that they didn't charge the extra $25 a day. They did not pay the extra fee there. From what I gather, some Enterprise offices do charge the fee but not very many. So I would check each island you are visiting to see if there are exceptions. Enterprise also usually has a very good rate. My DD and BF had reserved a compact car but they upgraded them to a jeep for no extra charge. They loved driving the jeep around especially on the road to Hana.

Awesome. Thanks a lot! I think I looked at 6-7 different car companies (Alamo, Budget, Dollar, etc), but I must have missed Enterprise. No wonder this website is popular -- I got 4 replies in 20-odd minutes. Thanks!!
BTW, forgive my ignorance, but what is DD or DH or others? I see folks using DH all the time, but have no idea what it means. The only thing I can think of is "Dang Husband", but I'm not confident that's it. LOL
