Car Hire and an old paper UK Driving Licence

Hi all

has anyone recently experienced hiring a car in USA using the old green paper style driving licence? I've never applied for the photo licence am able to hire okay in EU but wonder about USA. We will be in California and intend hiring from hertz

I've done this but it was 10 years ago.
You will still need to have photo ID so show your passport (same name).

I suggest you call Hertz to confirm as a safeguard.

In the US you need to renew your license every X years (how long depends on the state - but it is usually 10 years or less) so they may assume yours is no longer valid. I would definitely call.

UK licenses don't need to be renewed every 10 years but do have an expiration date on them.

I'm pretty sure the car rental place will have seen a UK license before and will just ask for additional photo ID. Lots of countries don't have licenses with photo ID.

OK I googled and found this link. Avis will accept paper licence plus your passport as photo ID.
