Never heard of Cobb's Cove. The Harbor House is right on Ocean Street across from Hyannis harbor which is a great location.
The HH was reccomended by Cape Cod Life in their 2002 Annual Guide which is good enough for me. They also claim they had to turn away 8,300 requests for rooms last year.

I have never stayed in either B&B, however, I do live on the Cape and maybe can help you decide. You have chosen two inns which couldn't be more different. The Harbor House sits within the inner harbor and offers you the ability to see the ferries departing and arriving from Nantucket as well as fishing boats and various excursion tours. You can walk to Main St. for many restaurants or dine nearby the Inn. The Cove Inn is on the North Side of the Cape which offers unbelieveably beautiful scenery. The North Side is known as the Olde Kings Highway and has remained historic with many old sea captain's homes, art galleries, and wonderful restaurants. It will come down to your preference, but remember you can go from the inner harbor or the North Side within 15 minutes and no matter which you choose, you will want to visit the other. Let us know what you decide and we can help with dining suggestions.

It truly is invaluable to have this input from those who know! I really appreciate it, thank you.
It sounds like the north area (Cobb's Cove) would be a bit less crowded perhaps? Its nice to be close to stuff but we'd rather not be in the heart of the hussle and bussel.
As for dining, what would you recommend? I'm embarassed to say but we're not huge seafood fans which I know is a crime on the Cape! Any good restaurants that offer a good combo? Or good bakeries?
Thanks again.

I think your choice of the north side is the best. First of all, I believe Cobb's Cove said it's within walking distance of Barnstable village, if so you have restaurants and breakfast choices right there. O.K. here goes, for what it's worth...the Barnstable Tavern is very cozy, historic and friendly, the food is less than great but certainly worth lunch or a cocktail. The Dolphin restaurant is generally always good and a little more expensive but worth it. A short walk down Mill Way will bring you to the harbor and another restaurant called the Mattakeese Wharf. I hope it's still open in the fall, it is good for lunch as it sits on the harbor....by the way the whale watch boats depart from this location as well. For a really good treat...try Abbicci's along rte. 6A wonderful for lunch and dinner and high end but worth every penny. I could go on all day, but you will see when you arrive your choices along 6A (Olde Kings Highway) are endless.
You don't like seafood.....I can't help you there, however, all restaurants serve a wonderful selection of all varieties of food and you won't have any problem with selections.

Going just a bit further along 6A from Bogger's great selections are a few more dining options: Anthony's Cummaquid in Yarmouthport; Scargo Cafe in Dennis; and the Old Jaihouse Tavern on Skaket Beach road just off 6A in Orleans.
