A friend from Europe has fallen in love with New England clam chowder and wants to have some for back home. Problem is, we have to have it by Wednesday night for a Thursday flight.
Which brand(s) of canned NECC taste best (I know it's subjective, but in general terms)? No time for taste testing, and no time for ordering - they have to be available on North Shore store shelves.
It seems the ones that get the best reviews online are
* Snow's (ready-to-eat, NOT condensed)
* Olde Cape Cod
* New England Country Soup
* Bar Harbor
Another possibility is Ipswich Shellfish (from their retail location).
Any suggestions from Massachusetts Fodorites?
My apologies if this belongs in the Lounge - it seemed like it would be more visible in the United States forum.

Thanks, Deb. I don't frequent the Lounge, so I figured it would get lost there.
If all fails, there are plenty of yummy recipes online which she will have all the ingredients I am sure.
I hope you find the recommendation you are looking for!
I would suggest the Clam Chowder from New England Country Soup to take to your friends in Europe. Beyond the great reviews (it really is a great NECC - consumers say it "taste like homemade") they are packaged in a BPA-free pouch and are considerably lighter weight than cans. It could be another HUGE advantage if packing them in your luggage or have to pay by weight for checking-in. I would just double bag in a zip-lock baggie - which I think you have to do regardless since it is a liquid substance.
You can find store locations and coupons on their site as well.

And should your friends fall in love with it they can even order online in the future.
Good luck and safe travels abroad.
oooh. That sounds lovely, arianne.
Also, tell her if all else fails when she is home, make some good potato soup using some bacon and cream, and add clams and clam juice. Go easy on the salt. That is what I find most off putting in most clam chowders (mainly at restaurants where they obviously use a commercial one, not homemade). TOO much salt.
Thanks for the input so far!
I did call Ipswich Shellfish and found that they sell individual cans from their retail location (you have to order 12-packs from their online store).
well the only one of those I've had is Snow's. And its not very good. Its not terrible, but I think one of the other choices would probably be better.
