I've heard the restaurants at most of the resorts in places like Ft Lauderdale are very expensive. Can anyone tell me if places like the Lago Mar Resort or the Marriott Beach Resort in Ft Lauderdale have restaurants or shopping that are within walking distance?
Can you walk to anything?

I would use google maps and the search nearby feature if I were you
Honestly, I'd say the restaurants at most of that type of resorts really aren't any more expensive than "similar" class restaurants which are independent. The quality comparison may be more of a consideration if you're looking for fine dining. Or are you looking more for chain or less expensive places -- Bonefish, Carraba, Olive Garden types?

I did, and found that neither place is near a selection of restaurants within walking distance.
