Can you tell me where teens shop in San Francisco?
I am spending two nights in San Francisco with my 15-yr-old daughter in June. Is there a trendy (or charming) shopping area for teen clothing or gifts--places like Melrose Ave in LA? We don't like high price designers, but rather fashionablly casual designs.
Thanks.
Thanks.

I am thinking of staying in Union Square area unless there is a particular area that would be more interesting for teens.
Is the Haight area safe? Any particular streets for interesting shops?

H&M is popular with my daughter and her friends - that's in the Union Square area.
They also love to visit the Haight-Ashbury district (between Masonic and Stanyan) and the Valencia Street corridor (Valencia between 16th and 24th).
Both areas are perfectly safe for you to go out in the daytime.

Yes, you can take MUNI (municipal rail) to either location from Union Square. You can also take BART to 16th and Mission, get out and walk west to Valencia, then explore from there.
The MUNI line to take to the Haight is the N Judah. Get off at Cole and walk down the hill a couple of blocks to Haight.

You can also take a bus to the Haight, either the 6 or 7 from stops on Market Street and you can take the J Church (MUNI) to get to Valencia Street--get off at 16th and Church and walk a couple of nice blocks to Valencia--you can visit the Mission Dolores on the way!!

Thanks. I'll have to get a map and plot this down. I have not relied on public transportation for a long time. I am used to driving in LA (with GPS) so this will be an exciting adventure for me.

San Francisco must be one of the best cities for public transportation in the nation. It is compace and you can get anywhere using the combinations of Muni, BART, cable cars, etc. When you arrive get an official map at any newsstand. And ask the concierge at your hotel for help.
