Can you see Oak Alley Plantation from the road?

My husband and I have toured Oak Alley before and would like to tour Laura Plantation this trip instead. However I'd still like my kids to see Oak Alley since it really is grand. You have to pay $20 admission per person just to get on the grounds, but I am trying to remember; can you see the line of oaks and the house itself fairly well from the road (or the levee)?

Yes, you can see it from the road/levee area. We toured Laura and just did a "drive by" of Oak Alley and I was able to get a pretty good picture from the levee area.

Can't you go to the little shop/cafe thing and not have to pony up for the entry fee? We didn't have time to "do" Oak Alley so we popped into the cafe/shop and took pics of the . . . er, alley of oaks.

Yes, we are considering having lunch at Oak Alley and then touring Laura, but since I am still working on our itinerary/timing I'm not sure what time of day we will be there. However even if you pay for lunch, they make you stay outside the fenced area if you don't pay the $20 admission fee. Not sure how far he fenced area is from the big house.

Regardless, this is very helpful as it sounds like we can get an eyeful of Oak Alley without actually paying to enter.

Hmm. Don't remember severe fencing, and this wasn't so long ago. We had a wide view and saw the namesake trees and the house. We also spent our chronological currency at Laura.
