Can I see USS Arizona on an afternoon flight layover?

I am connecting through Honolulu on a trip to Maui in March. I get into the airport around 1:30 in the afternoon. Is there enough time to take the USS arizona tour, and then head back to the airport to make a flight to Maui. I haven't yet bought my Honolulu to Maui tickets yet, so I could stay in Honolulu as late as needed. I have heard that the USS Arizona tour is quite popular, and arriving that late, I might not get in.

You do not have time to see the Arizona that day. This is what we've done a few times coming from Kauai.....

We've always had to go through Honolulu going to Kauai. The return trip to the mainland didn't leave Honolulu until around 6:45pm so we would leave Kauai in the early am and check our luggage on through (except carry-ons). Rent a locker at the airport for all our carry-ons and catch a cab to the Arizona (about $11 each way). The cab is much cheaper and easier that renting a car for one day. That way we had all day to see the Memorial and catch the Blue Fin Sub.
Works really well.

There's no reason why you couldn't do it on the layover to Maui. I think the latest plane leaves for Maui at about 8:30 P. M. Also bus transportation from the airport is a definite possibility. If you're interested, let me know in a post and I'll dig out some bus schedules and info.

I 2nd Zachary's idea. See it on the way back through Oahu. You would have time to get to the Arizona from the airport - BUT the crowds and lines can be huge so you might not have time to actually visit the site. You will have more time on the return trip.

bill--

i don't know how the crowds are in march, but in june if u got to the tkt counter at noon, u might or might not have been able to get tkts to the last program at 3pm. i wd definitely plan on getting there as early in the a.m. as possible, and then building in some waiting time--go tour the uss bowfin submarine next door, have a snack, browse in the bookshop.

after arriving in hnl, i'd head to maui on the first available flight--don't bother w/ stowing luggage, renting a car or finding a taxi or bus, and making it back to the airport for a connecting flight only to deal w/ another car rental, cking in at hotel etc. this way u'll be in time for sunset drinks on maui at the end of ur flight!

No, it not would be impossible! The last tickets are usually given out by noon and the last ferry departs at 3:00 (I'm pretty sure). I'm not trying to be a naysayer but know from experience that you simply do not have the time. FYI- on most weekends and friday's the last tickets are gone by 10:30 or so. Sorry but.....

There are no tourists here now! The Arizona Memorial is only about 10 minutes from the airport so you should have no problem. Advice: check the latest Hawaiian Air/ Aloha Air flight schedules because they are cancelling LOTS of flights.

We did this same thing BUT we arrived at the Memorial around 12:30-1:00. It was fairly crowded but we got in. I think there was another group after us as well. Its close to the airport. We took the city bus. It might be worth a try since its so close to the airport. They tell you right up front what time you will get in so you can decide right then if its possible for you.

We just got back yesterday from Oahu. We went to the Arizona last Sat. We got there at 11:00 and waited 1 hour for the tour. They said that tourism is down now and the lines are not that long. If I remember correctly, there was a sign that said the last boat was at 5:00. Anyway, when you get there and you get your ticket they tell you what time the tour starts and how long it lasts.

Just arrived home from Honolulu, today. Be advised that a woman can only carry a billfold --not a purse, backpack, or even a sack of postcards (unless they can be in a pocket) They will allow no camera cases--only hand held cameras. This made it rough on tourists coming out by The Bus, and having no car to store things. They had to come back another time. This goes for the USS Missouri visits also. Security is very tight. Plan to allow plenty of time for your visit even though the crowds are not there at this time. We had one other couple on our guided tour of the USS Missouri in mid-morning.
