Can I do SF, Sonoma and Yosemite in 8 days?

Jump to last reply

Hello helpful Fodorites! My husband and I would like to take a trip in August to celebrate our anniversary. Neither of us has ever been to San Francisco, Yosemite or the Napa/Sonoma area, and we've always wanted to see all three. Since they are "relatively" near each other we thought we might be able to do so in one trip, but I want to know if those of you who live there/have been there think this is too ambitious. We like to hike and be outdoors, so this is what we want to do in Yosemite. We also love history and culture - this is what we want to see in SF (we would love to do the night Alcatraz tour, if anyone thinks it's worthwhile). And we like robust reds (zinfandels are our favorites) so we'd like to relax and taste some wines (hence, Sonoma).

We live in Florida, so the water isn't the hugest attraction to us since we live on Tampa Bay and get out on our boat when the weather permits. Can anyone suggest an itinerary for 8 or so days for these 3 areas? Or can someone advise us against all three in a little over a week?

Thanks for any and all input!
