Can anyone recommend a good B&B in Michigan?

My husband and I would like to go to a B&B in Michigan (anyplace in Michigan) to celebrate our 1-year anniversary in October. Can anyone recommend a good one, or tell us to avoid a bad one? Thanks!

Mrs. J: The hubby & I stayed at the Rosemont Inn in Douglas, MI over the 4th of July weekend & would definitely go back. The Inn is across the street from Lake Michigan & they have their own pool and hot tub. Our room was fine - cozy, quiet & rather charming - just a little on the small size. There is an EXCELLENT restaurant in "downtown" Douglas - Everday People Cafe - (the downtown is about one block long). You are only about five minutes from Saugatuck for shopping & more restaurant choices. You can find them on the web at Rosemontinn.com or call 800-721-2637.

Mrs. J: Forgot to add - when we were walking around Saugatuck, we ran across The Wickwood Inn, which is owned by Julee Rosso who co-authored the Silver Palate Cookbook. We didn't go in, but it looked very nice on the outside & I'm sure the breakfasts would be fabulous. They are also on the web at Wickwoodinn.com.
Just an observation: the Rosemont is in a more residential/quiet spot in Douglas than the Wickwood in Saugatuck.

The Inn at Union Pier or the Pine Garth Inn (both in Union Pier, Michigan) are fantastic.
Union Pier is a beautiful area with great restaurants, walking trails and beaches.
Go to Michigan.org and search on accomodations.

Mrs. J: We have also stayed at both of Cori's suggestions - the Pine Garth Inn is WONDERFUL - call them now as they book up months in advance. Was not too impressed with the Inn at Union Pier - I thought the rooms were rather spartan - maybe it was just the one we were in. At the time we stayed there, they had the best restaurant- called Jennys. Jennys has since moved out & they have their own space in Lakeside, MI - not far at all if you are staying in either the Inn at Union Pier or Pine Garth. Millers is another good restaurant in that area.

Agree with all posters but must warn about Wickwood Inn. I will never recommend it. A few years ago my sis-in-law was killed and we had to cancel a reservation there with less than the required 7-day notice in order to return home. (We were on a B&B-to-B&B vacation trip along the west MI coast.) We canceled 2 days prior, and had only booked one night - on a weekend. They charged us the full $300 room rate. Even though it was the middle of summer and I am POSITIVE they were able to rent out the room because they are always booked solid. All the other inns we'd booked for that week were very gracious and will get our repeat business, believe me.
