Camden Yards-getting back to hotel after games

Trying to get a hotel on Priceline in the Inner Harbor for a Red Sox/Orioles game at the end of July, but no luck so far. Holding rooms at the Hilton BWI just in case. I believe we can take the light rail back to the Hilton after the game, but we would have to leave right after the game to go back because it stops running. Is that true? Has anyone stayed at this hotel? The reviews seem good. Does anyone have an idea of how much a taxi would cost and how difficult it would be to get one or are they readily available?

Thanks so much!

Try quikbook.com too. I stayed in Fells Point at the Admiral Fell Inn last year for the Sox @ Orioles games (when Manny hit #500). We cabbed it back to Fells Point. There were lots of taxis available.

How late a train did you want to catch?

According to the paper schedule that I've saved since I was in Baltimore a few weeks ago, the last MARC train leaves Camden Yards at 6:10pm.

You could take a bus up to Penn Station and then take the other MARC line train to BWI, but the last MARC train leaves Penn Station at 9:15pm.

Taking a taxi would be prohibitively expensive. I'd suggest using the taxi money to pay for a hotel in the Inner Harbor area.

In checking biddingfortravel.com, it looks like you could get a 4* in the Harbor area for less than $100.

If you can't get anything else in the Harbor area, I'd still suggest getting something in Baltimore rather than at BWI.

I just tried a few pages (Travelocity, quikbook). Its looking tough to get rooms due to those being Red Sox games. I know a lot of people coming down from Hartford and I imagine it will be packed. Will you have a car available?

Thank you both for your replies. I've bid as high as $140 for the 4*'s in the Inner Harbor with no takers. Amazing since I also saw that they are going for under $100 for other dates in June and July. Three of the 4* hotels listed in biddingfortravel.com have no availability and the 3.5* is full too. I also tried Fell's Point and they are full that weekend too. We are driving to Baltimore from NC so we will have a car available, but we hoped to just park it and spend the weekend walking around sightseeing since it will be our first time there. We just may have to raise our bid or hold on to the reservation we have at BWI and keep bidding in the hope that some people will cancel. I even tried VRBO.com and everything is full. Thanks again.

In my experience (2 games - one on w/e one mid-week), hotels stay full for any Red Sox-Baltimore game and they also raise prices considerably - so while it makes sense to continue Pricelining, I would not be too optimistic.

Why not just drive your car in and park at Oriole Park? Then at game end drive out to your hotel at BWI?

That would be the cheapest, unless you're thinking of getting riproaring drunk...

The last Light Rail from Camden Yards is 12.08 AM on Saturday, 1.08 AM during the week, so you'd have plenty of time to get to the airport, where you should be able to get a shuttle to the hotel. Taxis are generally very easy to get in the area after a game.

Just wanted to thank you all for your wonderful help. We booked 2 rooms at Henderson's Wharf Inn. The reviews sound really good. Staying at the airport is fine, but just seemed really far away from everything and would probably involve driving to and from the game which we really didn't want to do. We can take the water shuttle to/from Camden Yards or take a taxi. Have any of you ever stayed at Henderson's Wharf Inn?

Tchoiniere-do you recall the cost of taking a taxi to Fell's Point after the game?

Thanks again and Go Sox!

It was around $20 plus tip. We got caught in traffic so that added up quite a bit. This is the maximum that we paid.

Just wanted to get back to all of you who were so helpful. We had a great time in Baltimore. We loved Camden Yards. What a terrific place to watch the games. We were there for the games last Friday and Saturday nights (tchoiniere-I see from a recent post that you were also there Sat). There were so many Sox fans that it was like being at Fenway! Such fun and winning both games was just the frosting on the cake.

We had lunch one day at Chiapparellis in Little Italy and the next day at Bertha's Mussels in Fell's Point.

The Inn at Henderson's Wharf was perfect. They have a complimentary breakfast each day with fresh fruit, pastries, cereal, juice and coffee. It was really delicious. Loved it there.

From the Inn it was a short walk to the water taxi which took us right over to the inner harbor for the games. We also took the water taxi to Fort McHenry and back. It was so convenient and easy to use.

It was a wonderful weekend and I hope we will get back again. Thanks for the help.
