california tours

New to this! Does anyone have information and/or opinions on the Caravan tours or Coletter tours to California, San Francisco area to be precise? We are specifically interested in these two but are open to other suggestions.
Thanks so much for any help.

I think you'll find that most people on Fodors are independent travelers, and don't rely on "general" tours to get them around. Perhaps that's why there has been no response to your inquiry.

I've travelled with Caravan to Mexico - very dependable, and there are reviews of this company on Fodor's - the search is on the upper right, and if you click on "advance search" you can change the date to search for 3 years at a time.

Haven't travelled with Colette, but seen people with their bags in airports - they looked happy.

Also Fodor's travelers recommend Gate 1 tours - not sure if they have tours in California.

I also like Globus or their sister company budget tours Cosmos.

Don't be put off by Stu Dudley. He often recommends tours too, only those where his wife works.

Never mind, I see now you got a recommendation for Tauk tours on another thread.

He recommends walking tours of parts of San Francisco where his wife is a volunteer guide, not escorted bus tours of the entire state of California!

Dayenu - my wife doesn't "work" for any tour group. Like sf stated, she is a volunteer on two Victorian House related tours for the non-profit San Francisco City Guides - sponsored by the San Francisco Public Library.

Dayenu,
Thanks for the information on Globus and Gate 1. I'm going to check them out. (Have already looked into Caravan, Tauck, and Road Scholar. They seem pretty good.) So, thank you, again, for the info.
