California Summer weather/ clothing

Hi everyone, I'm one week apart from my Pacific Coast Highway road trip. Some advice on weather/ proper clothing?

For inland -- as little clothing as possible -- it will be hotter than blazes. But on the coast partly depends on which part(s) of the coast you mean.

Between say Cambria and north of San Francisco -- you will need some summer clothes but also a sweater/jacket/sweatshirt and some long sleeves/long pants because it can be cool and foggy.

As an example - today in my area in the central valley it is supposed to be 102F while 75 miles away in SF it will be about 65F

In Southern California it will be warmer on the coast - today Santa Monica is supposed to hit about 85F. (hopefully there won't be a record shattering heat wave like last week)

And we're headed OUT of San Francisco today (we live in the city) 35 miles to Bolinas and Point Reyes, where it's expected to be in the low 80s. Yesterday we were in Palo Alto where it was 90 degrees. Plan accordingly!

Layers. It's generally nice & temperate along the coast and gets hotter (sometimes REALLY hot) as you go inland. Good advice from janisj.

Here where I live in an LA suburb 1.5 miles from the ocean, it is 78F with lows about 66F and projected to be in that range for the next 5 days. Hollywood was getting a high of 80F per Accuweather.
I am currently wearing a T-shirt and long lightweight cotton pants but you will want a jacket or hoodie if going out at night.
So yes layers like the others have said.

Reporting back, it wasn't nearly as warm at the coast as expected - only high 60s in Point Reyes Station, and windy on the coastal trail, but in Fairfax/San Anselmo, it was 88 degrees.

Very common to have 60's on the coast. Was in Cambria yesterday and it was 65 and sunny. We went there for lunch and hiking to escape the 104 degrees at home (20 minutes away).
