First, you might want to re-post this question on the Canada Forum (use the "Change Form" link above).
There are lots of things to do in Banff - hundreds of hiking trails, white water rafting, canoeing, golf, gondola rides, glacier hikes, horseback riding, etc.
Google "Things to do in Banff" for plenty of ideas.

You should post this on the Canadian forum and with the level of activity there you most likely will get one response if you're lucky.
Many of the posters on the US forums for national parks have gone or are going to Banff and/or Jasper.
The only thing I would have done differently from what you did was tag it for Montana, Colorado, Wyoming and Utah.
Depending upon the weather and how much time you actually have in Banff I might consider:
Lake Minnewanka Scenic Road for bighorn sheep.
Johnston Canyon hike. Not long and waterfalls at two places. Go to Upper and Lower. Very unique setup as parts of the trail are actually manmade and anchored to the side of the canyon.
Go to Lake Louise and on the road between Lake Louise village and the Lake take a left turn and go to Moraine Lake. Go up the Rock Pile to the left of the parking lot. That's the view on the old Canadian 20 dollar bill.
Then go back to the Lake Louise Road and go to the lake. You'll see a glacier at the end of the lake.
Drive a few miles up the Icefields Parkway. Stop at Bow Summit and take the very short hike to one of the most popular spots. The Peyto Lake viewpoint. The color is amazing.
I don't know how much time you have or how efficient you can be. If you have time drive to the Icefields Centre (about 50 miles). From there you can see across the highway to the Athabasca Glacier.
Hopefully I've given you enough sights so you can select those of interest.

Myer, I did the trip you mentioned from Calgary a few years back, at the end of October, certainly not primetime. We turned around at the Icefields, where snow was starting to drift. I was showing my boss the highlights, as he had never been to Banff, etc. before. Also took a few side roads in the Parks. I put 400 miles on the rental car, and when we stopped, it wasn't for long.
So, do the suggested trip, but research your route, take your lunch so you won't waste time waiting for someone else to prepare it, and get an EARLY start, as it will be a long day.... but a good one!
