Calf trip

I am planning a week long trip to Calf with friends who have never been there previously. We will be flying into San Fran and would like to spend a couple days there along with a trip down the coastal highway along with visits to some of our favorite vineyards. Any suggestions on where to stay and what to see along that route?

Calf is a young cow.

When will you be here? What is "cast in concrete"? How far south do you plan on getting to in a week. What vineyards do you plan on visiting? Is LA in the plans? What are your interests? Where are you flying home from?

Here are some of my ideas:

lol New to this forum, I now have a sense of how to phrase my questions. Figure on going just south of Big Sur. The only vineyard I know for sure will be Trefethen. Open to visiting others that are of a local nature.

It wasn't your 'phrasing'. Calf is a young animal . . . (once could be a typo -- no big deal, but twice means you think the abbreviation of California is calf )

Now to your questions -- When is this trip. Time of year can make a big difference -- especially in Big Sur.

Trefethen was damaged in the earthquake. Not sure the current situation so I'd check to be sure.

If you want to see SF and Big Sur/Monterey/Carmel . . . there are lots of vineyards to the south w/o having to head north to Napa/Sonoma.

W/ just a week you will be spread pretty thin doing SF/Napa/Sonoma/Big Sur and environs . . .

With just a week, you could do something like this:

Day 1: Fly into SFO, stay in SF
Days 2 and 3: In SF
Day 4: Morning drive to Napa or Sonoma, afternoon visit to wineries, overnight nearby.
Day 5: Morning drive to Monterey/Carmel, afternoon in Monterey/Carmel
Day 6: In Monterey/Carmel - possible day trip to Big Sur
Day 7: Drive back to SFO for flight home.

I am properly chastised. Thanks for the suggestions. While Trefethen was damaged by the earthquake, they have temporary quarters and I promised I would visit. As to other vineyards, I am open to suggestions.

Hard to fault someone who appreciates Trefethen!

Because SFO is in the middle and you want to go to both ends, so to speak, you are going to be pressed for time.

One afternoon isn't a lot for visiting wineries. Two, maybe? Frustrating, rather than enjoyable.

If this is in any of the winter months, I would bag Big Sur/Monterrey, fly into Oakland, loop north through Napa and the incredibly gorgeous Sonoma coast and back to San Francisco for a couple of days, dropping the car in the process.
