Cafe des Amis - Breaux Bridge

Doing a short driving tour of Louisiana after 5 days in New Orleans. We were thinking of taking in the zydeco breakfast, but I've heard it does get very busy. Do they do reservations or do we just turn up on a Saturday morning and join a line? If so when do we need to be there? BTW, we'll be in the area on Saturday 19th November. Any other tips for visiting this restuarant or the Breaux Bridge area in general?

They do not take reservations and ask that you give up your table when you are through eating so other guests can enjoy the music.

In that area, our favorites for activities/sights were:

Lake Martin - beautiful lake with tons of wildlife. This time of year there won't be as much as in the summer, but I think it would still be worth taking a boat tour. We went with Butch Gutchereax - he is really great. The tour lasted a couple hours and he has tons of great information.

Shadows on the Teche - Plantation in New Iberia. There is a video to watch and some interesting exhibits at the visitors center and then you can take a tour of the plantation house itself. It is a nice contrast to the bigger, more lavish places on the River Road.

Jungle Gardens on Avery Island - Avery Island is where the Tabasco factory is, which you can also tour a bit of. We went for the Tabasco, but were totally taken by surprise by the Jungle Gardens. This is a huge area that you drive through, stoping along the way to see the different garden areas. Just beautiful. It was summer when we were there, so again - tons of wildlife and flowers. It will be different in November.

It's the same Acme Oyster House chain. The Baton Rouge location is the most recently opened of the five.

I might add that the zydeco band at Cafe des Amis sets up in the bay window by the front door. If one is so inclined, one can hang out on the sidewalk and take in the music and the scene instead of going in and fighting the crowds to eat. Or, before or after doing so.

I've followed some of the suggestions above, and enjoyed them. The one that I most want to do next is Whiskey River Landing.

I had a great lunch at Chez Jacqueline, just down the block from Cafe des Amis.
