Cabarets in New York City
Three middle-age college room-mates in the city. Does anyone have any ideas for piano bars, cabaret acts or anything else to do? We are so over the nightclub scene. We don't want to just sit in the hotel room every night. We will be there from about the 6th-11th of May. Thanks, Shanart

Feinsteins is indeed upscale and expensive. If you want to spend a minimum of about $100 each plus drinks, go, dependent upon who's performing.
A whole lot of fun is Don't Tell Mama on 46th St. just west of 8th Ave. They have regular cabaret shows plus piano bar entertainment in the front room. They have a website with schedules listed.
Really campy is Marie's Crisis in the West Village -- semi-gay. And there is Rose's Turn, sort of right upstairs from there.

Not sure if you can access it online (www.nynewsday.com) but newsday has recently revamped their clubs/music/going out section and lists quite a few places - pretty extensive listing. maybe you can buy one when you're here. Also try New York magazine (www.metronewyork.com) and Time Out New York (I think the website is www.tony.com) also citysearch (www.nycitysearch.com) Have fun!

Also west Village is the Duplex (piano bar). Used to be very gay but was there 2 weeks ago & it's now very mixed. Good fun. Some good regulars. On the upper east side, Brandy's on 84th betw 2nd & 3rd another fun piano bar with singing wait staff.

LMS, I've been sitting here trying to think of how to further describe Marie's Crisis (whose name has to do with the owner developing cancer years ago), but I don't think there's anything to say to describe it. Just go and have fun.
