bus info/oahu to flea market
I want to go from my hotel (Waikiki Parc) which is on Helumoa Road in Honolulu....or, if it's easier, from downtown Waikiki to the flea market on Saturday or Sunday morning. Does anyone know the bus or buses I need to take to get there. Plus, how long is the ride? How often do the buses run? Do I need to transfer buses? Also, I want to go to Boots and Kimo's in Kailua for breakfast one day, I will be going there by bus. If anyone can offer the bus information, (leaving from the same hotel, or downtown Waikiki), same details, I would really appreciate it. Thanks!!!!!

We went to the Flea market and they did have good deals, but I did not find it to be too different--price or content from the International Market right in downtown Waikiki. If I had it to do again I would not have bothered going out to the stadium--however the people out there were very friendly. We bought macadamia nuts and dried squid at one table and they gave us two free "Korean burritos" and cups full of much appreciated ice water.
The burritos were seaweed wrapped around sticky rice, kimchee, and spicy squid--actually pretty tasty!

The Stadium Swap Meet goes on Sun, Wed, and Sat. Best day to go is Sunday. You will find so many different items there. The locals will most likely go there before the International Marketplace. Fabric is cheap, as well as clothing. The snacks are excellent and you can get a tan. Be sure you wear sun block.
As for the bus service, I can't remember which bus passes by there, but check out this site for routes and schedules

Can't remember the bus route #, but know there was one that went straight there. Same one as Pearl Harbor-maybe?
Also, we went on a Sunday. I believe the cost is 50 cents. We had a coupon for free entry (found almost anywhere). We had no idea how much it was before we got there. It was pretty crowded for a Sunday. I actually liked it better than the Int'l Marketplace. Both have lots of jewelry and T-shirt kind of stuff. I found the stadium to be more comfortable.

There are about three different bus routes that take you out to the Aloha Stadium where the swapmeet is. I think they are #19, 20 and 22, but check with The Bus website, get a schedule when you get there, or give them a call.
The swapmeet is open Sat/Sun/Wed. It gets hot out there so wear sunscreen or better yet, a hat or visor. I took my carry-on suitcase (with the wheels) when I went and it was great - I just put all my treasures in there and didn't have to deal with lugging a bunch of sticky plastic bags all day.
I personally thought the prices and selection of merchandise outweighed the International Market Place - although I love shopping there too. But for cheap souvenirs you can't beat the swapmeet. Like a previous poster said - you can get a coupon for free admission (all of 50 cents) in the "Things To Do" books all over Waikiki.
If you take The Bus up there, be sure to get a transfer - if you re-board The Bus within a two hour time-frame they'll take your transfers which will save you $2 per person.

I forgot to mention it - great choice for breakfast at Boots & Kimo's in Kailua. I know you can get a bus out there, but I don't know what the number is. Ask at your hotel, check the website or call The Bus when you get there.
Boots & Kimo's have the best mac. nut pancakes you'll find anywhere (IMO). You may have to wait a bit when you arrive - it's a small, but very busy place. But it's worth every minute you may have to wait. Enjoy!

andiamo I love Hawaii more than most people but I can't for the life of me imagine getting on a bus to go to that flee market.
Bashful LV is right it is hot hot hot!! For a $5 tee shirt you could most likely buy in Waikiki. Just a thought.
