Buisness/Leisure Trip to Portland
My husband and I are going to Portland this weekend 15th-18th and staying at Hotel Modera. Just wondering if anyone knows anything about this hotel and if it is close to all the good restaurants and shopping areas. Also, any recommendations for restaurants and closest wineries to visit. We are thinking of opening a business here and want to get a taste of the city.

All I know about Hotel Modera is that it's a vast improvement over the Day's Inn, from which it was converted a few years ago. ;-)
Well... that's not all I know. It's in a good location, south-central part of the downtown core, within easy walking distance of some good restaurants - Higgins, Veritable Quandry, Carafe, Murata, and Heathman come to mind - and, it's just a few blocks from the streetcar, which will take you into the Pearl District and NW 21st & 23rd Streets, two of Portland's more popular shopping and dining areas. My three favorite restaurants in town - Le Pigeon, Sel Gris, and Toro Bravo - are all on the east side of the river, but, I doubt you'd be disappointed with places like Fenouil, Carlyle, Ten 01, Bluehour, Paley's Place, Andina, Caffe Mingo, Piazza Italia... and the list goes on.
As for wineries, there's at least one in downtown: Grochau Cellars - http://www.gcwines.com/. And they make some great wine. But, I expect you're asking more about wine country wineries? Closest bestest is Ponzi. But, if you want to get a feel for wine country, you should drive a route bounded by Newberg (North Valley Road), Carlton, and McMinnville.

45 minutes to McMinnville in good traffic! I usually budget about an hour.
Yeah, the Modera is right on the MAX (light rail train) line - which will take you close to the Pearl District (free ride downtown). Portland is a great walking city. Do get out and explore Portland's excellent neighborhoods a bit - not just the Pearl and NW Portland - the easiest to explore from downtown - but those on the east side of the Willamette ("Will-AHHH-met") River such as Hawthorne, Irvington, and Sellwood.

I've lived in the Portland area since '67 Andrew, and have always heard the "a" in Willamette pronounced as it is in cat.
Looks like you might get a taste of typical fall weather this weekend too, Debbie. If you're seriously thinking about moving here, you should understand that gray skies w/ a good chance of precipitation is the forecast for 6 - 8 months of the year. ;-)

I am adding WILDWOOD to the restaurant list of beachbum .. on NW 21st , you can take the Streetcar ..
Personally, the atmosphere in the Portland City Grill is reminiscent of a singles bar..
If you want to open a business in Portland, take a long hard look at how many stores are closed and how many empty spaces there are.
We lived there, moved 2 years ago and while rent and housing prices were extremely high, but there were more places being built than there was demand. Be very cautious with what sort of business you would open .. Portland is fabulous but does have its financial woes.
Downtown restaurants:
Mothers Bistro
Mama Mia
Typhoon
Higgins
SouthPark - seafood
Pearl:
bluehour
Everett Street Bistro
Paragon
Silk
Henrys
Do not miss having something from the Pearl Bakery and from Mio Gelato .. right next to Powells bookstore.
Have fun .. ( no doubt you will eat and drink very well )
