My daughter lived there for a year. Her car was stolen, her husbands car broken into, and overall it is not a place I would recommend for visitors. It is a big, rough suberb, I would guess it is a $30.00 cab ride to the convention center. There are lots of hotels near the convention center and lots more in downtown Minneapolis.
I agree with ziggypop - you would be better staying downtown or near downtown Mpls. or even the western suburbs as they are much closer to downtown and safer.
The Embassy Suites is perfectly safe, not in a bad area.
Brooklyn Center itself is nothing special, parts are fine other parts are not safe as with any city or suburb. If you're thinking about staying there and going back and forth to the Convention Center you will be fine. I doubt you'll be going into any residential neighborhoods or higher crime areas.
Maybe 15-20 minutes to downtown, depending on time of day and traffic.
Thanks for your replies. We decided to pay the extra money and stay downtown, also far more convenient to be able to walk to places. Thanks again.
