Interested in opinions on a few shows:

Mary Poppins & Spiderman?

We have seen Wicked several times, my daughter wants to see Lion King and I would like to select one more show. She loved Hairspray (Her favorite to date I think) and Legally Blonde.

Also - there is a 50.00 price difference (about ) between Row K and Row R - not sure it is worth the extra 100.00 ... ?

What say you?

Spiderman..took a grandchild to it as it was his choice. We were so surprised that we enjoyed it too.
With Spiderman make sure you have an unobstructed view of the flights over the orchestra section. They also land on the balcony railing.
Haven't seen Mary Poppins so can't compare.

I actually think Row K and Row R are quite different -- assuming the first row is Row A, then Row K is the 11th row, which means Row R is more than 50% farther back.

Row R for Spiderman is likely behind the balcony, while Row K for Spiderman is in front of the balcony. If you want an unobstructed view of the flying, then the only option is Row K, which probably explains the price differential. In a normal show, the price wouldn't change that much.

This isn't really an issue for Mary Poppins. I saw it close to the front, but further back shouldn't be a problem.

Nevertheless, I'd still strive to see something fresher. Maybe Godspell or Sister Act instead of Mary Poppins.

sf - true - just trying to look at all options - I was able to use Preferred seating with Amex Gold and it brought the close seats down to the price of the R seats. So that is good!

Any thoughts on Radio City Musical Christmas?

short, cheesy and entirely worth it to see the rockettes because you've always heard about them. The girls/women are very impressive.

Just saw the Radio City show this past Saturday. I hadn't seen it for a few years and there were a number of changes. Most numbers use 36 Rockettes, I think that's more than they used to use -- and yes, very impressive. They also added a 3-D sequence this year -- kind of fun. Anyone who isn't grinning ear to ear by the end of this 90 minute show should be humbugged to death.

Good to know. We saw a traveling show several years ago in Orange County but somehow it could not be the same. Tickets are pretty pricey so I have to weigh out my options. Daughter wants to be a large animal vet and live in Africa and Lion King is her favorite Disney movie so I have tickets on Wed. night for that.

Will go to the Tenement museum on Thursday @ 2:00 - our son just got a job at a new place on 5th avenue - Lulu n Me - not sure if it is a place my 14 year old can go -

Taking the train to Melville <sp> on Friday for a company function and we will spend the weekend with family in the area (my husband is from Brooklyn and most of his family is still in NY/PA/NJ) - I fly out of EWR on Monday - my 44 bday

I don;t know anyone who gave Mary Poppins good reviews - and think it was awfully bland.

But I can't say I would have any interest in Spiderman. (But them I'm not 14.) I would do Anything Goes and think it would give any teen a little polish.

I saw Mary Poppins, and I found it charming and entertaining. The performances were really good as well. Not my favorite show, but it's not bad.

Good to know Doug - I am actually a Mary Poppins fan with a spoon full of sugar and all that... good childhood memories.

I will also check out Anything Goes and see what that is about NY - thank you!

Re: the Rockettes show...we too saw a traveling show years ago and thought it was great fun. If you do end up going, try to include a tour of Radio City during your trip (assuming they still do them). During ours, we got to see a lot of the backstage area, meet a real Rockette, etc. Quite cool--it's an impressive space.

My husband and I closed our eyes and took a little rest while our over 16 year old daughter was charmed to pieces by a recent performance of Mary Poppins. She thought it was fabulous! You just never know...

If you get tickets for Mary Poppins try to get them on the 1st mezzanine so you get the full effect as her umbrella does its magic.

Just another thought: If a fair amount of predictable, prosaic profanity doesn't bother either of you, you might consider getting tickets for Billy Elliot. It's a great show. It closes Jan. 8th 2012, in NYC.

Does it have to be a musical? Would you see War Horse?

War Horse would be my suggestion. I saw it two weeks ago with my two (adult) daughters and we all loved it. The Spielberg movie is coming out at Christmas so we were glad to see it before then. It was excellent - great story, incredible puppetry.

Dawn, I didn't realize that your daughter wanted to be a vet. If you ever make it here to the garden spot I live in, she can visit my sister's clinic for the day. Guaranteed blast. Plus my sister was a vet at a race horse farm when she graduated years ago.

I would vote for Anything Goes.

Bowsprit, I also dozed during the first act of Mary Poppins. We don't get to NY very often and I was sitting there thinking "I can't believe I'm falling asleep in a Broadway musical."
