Trip Report Brief trip report to Falmouth

Jump to last reply

I thought I would write a very brief trip report about our one night/two day getaway to Falmouth. I went with my mother and my daughter. We always go to Wellfleet but this time we didn't want to drive that far because we had to leave the Cape at 3:30 due to other commitments. We have never stayed in Falmouth & decided it would be a nice change.

All 3 of us really enjoyed Falmouth & would definitely return. We stayed at the Beach Rose Inn, 17 Chase Road, Falmouth. We had the Falmouth Suite, a 2-room suite that sleeps 3 people. The inn is lovely, the owners & staff are friendly & helpful, and the grounds are very pretty. The price includes a full breakfast, & the outdoor dining area is gorgeous. There is a deck, with nice tables with wide umbrellas, & a babbling brook next to the deck. Beyond the deck, there is also a nice seating area in the sun (no umbrellas). Breakfast is served on the outdoor buffet, & every morning there is a different hot main dish. This morning there were 2 egg dishes: delicious omelets and scrambled eggs. They also served bacon, home-made cinnamon muffins, thick toast, fresh fruit salad, granola & yougurt, with cranberry juice, orange juice & delicious coffee. It was so nice sitting outside & enjoying the surroundings & great breakfast.

Several Fodorites suggested the Fishmongers Cafe in Woods Hole for dinner, so that is where we ate last night. We had a table by the window overlooking the harbor. It' s a nice casual place, & it was very busy last night, so we had a drink at the bar first. We had the whole belly fried clam dinner which was fabulous, fat bellies, not gritty. It was a little pricey at $25 but worth it. We also tried the Dark & STormy drink, which we all liked.

We bought sandwiches yesterday at West Falmouth Market to bring to the beach & they are delicious & reasonable. Between the 3 of us, we had the Bourne Farm, The Woodneck, & the Woods Hole Wrap.
Address is: 623 West Falmouth Highway

Today we bought sandwiches at Bean & Cod on Main Street in Falmouth. The prices were about $1 more than at West Falmouth Market, but includes a small bag of Cape Cod potato chips & a sliced pickle. My mother had the chicken salad wrap, & my daughter & I split a chicken salad wrap & veggie wrap with goat cheese. I prefer the veggie wrap but my mom & daughter preferred the chicken salad.

We went to Wood Neck Beach yesterday and Chapoquoc Beach today. I think Wood Neck Beach is the prettier of the two beaches but is rocky in places. My mother prefers Chapoquoc Beach because there are fewer rocks. Both beaches are good for families with small children because the water is warm, shallow & calm.

We really enjoyed shopping in Falmouth but also noticed that it wasn't too crowded Thursday night. We usually go to P'town at night which is ALWAYS mobbed so this was a nice change of pace. We did stop at Pie in the Sky in Woods Hold this morning to buy sandwiches but the line was out the door & we planned on making a stop on Main St in Falmouth so we didn't stay & bought our sandwiches at Bean & Cod instead.

We really enjoyed Famouth & Woods Hole & will definitely come here again.
Thanks to the Fodorites who recommended Fishmonger's Cafe.
