Bozeman Lodging & Sightseeing

My husband and I have chosen, but not yet booked, the Lehrkind Mansion as our "base" in Bozeman. Is anyone familiar with this B & B? Is it as lovely as their online photos? Are there any sights that are a "don't miss" in the Bozeman area? What about any "don't miss" restaurants? We thought about a day trip to either Billings, Butte, or Helena? What do you think? Thanks for your help!

Cheers,
Lauren

Lauren,
I haven't been in the Lehrkind Mansion but it looks very nice from the outside. It is in a semi-industrial area, however. Some other options are Gallatin Gateway Inn which is about 20 minutes south of town or the Murray Hotel in Livingston.
In Bozeman I highly recommend the Museum of the Rockies at MSU.
Bozeman is perfectly situated for some nice day trips in all directions. Helena, Butte, West Yellowstone, and Livingston all have something to offer. I'd skip Billings, however.
My favorite day trip from Bozeman would be to drive over Bozeman Pass to Livingston, spend an hour or two exploring Livingston, drive down US 89 through the Paradise Valley to Gardiner and visit the brand new Yellowstone Museum, and then head back up to Chico Hot Springs for a quick soak and an early dinner in arguably the best restaurant in Montana before returning to Bozeman. It's a long day but you won't regret it.
Make dinner reservations in advance or you won't get in.
If you go to Butte don't miss the Berkley Pit and if you go to Helena don't miss the state capitol building and the historical society museum.
Enjoy your visit and welcome to Montana.

Paul,

We'll be in Yellowstone for three nights prior to heading to Bozeman. Otherwise, that would be a great suggestion. Thanks!
