Boston to Maine

Thank you in advance. My fellow Fodorites have helped me with all of my travel plans and I need you again...;-)

My husband and I are taking his sister and nephew for their first visit to the New England area. They are both from another country so this will be super special.
The adults (3) are early 50's and our nephew is 14. We would ideally like to end our trip with Boston so we will immediately get on the road to wherever and leave the car once we arrive back in Boston (we won't need, correct?)

We have 10 days and will be flying from Houston. Leaving Houston on or about the 2nd of August through the 11th of August. We will end in Boston for the last 3 nights so that we can put them on a train to Baltimore which is their next destination. We fly home.
Our accommodation budget would be about $250 per night or less. We want to have the following experiences, not in any particular order:

1 - Lobster cookout on the beach - maybe as part of a windjammer. We would only want to do 1 night on the boat though.
2 - Beach accommodation
3 - Bit of hiking/nature walking but nothing too vertical
4 - Relaxation
5 - Mountains and beautiful scenery from our front porch
6 - All inclusive or part inclusive resort that offers kids stuff to do onsite
7 - Any other cool experience that might be unusual.

How far up the coast should we go? I would love to do Acadia but if that is too far I can always do another time. Maybe go to the interior instead? White Mountains?

How are the crowds in August?
