Boston to Kennebunkport/Cape Elizabeth/Freeport

Jump to last reply

I debated going to Kennebunkport last summer, but ended up going to the Pacific NW. So, I am going this June. I will arrive in Boston, get a car and immediately head towards Maine. I would like to see some lighthouses. Any comments on the itinerary below?

Depart Logan in rental car around 1 pm on a Thursday, June 16 head towards Kennebunkport where I'll spend two nights. Would it be feasible to stop in and see Cape Neddick Lighthouse en route? From there, would it be ok to take Route 1 to Kennebunkport or will the traffic be so bad it would be better to get on I-95?

Upon arrival in Kennebunkport, chill out for the evening. How packed will the town be at this time of June?

Friday, June 17, head towards Cape Elizabeth and Portland, visiting Two lights state park and Portland Head Lighthouse. After seeing these sights, head to Freeport to LLBean. I've been using Bean products for so long, it would seem wrong to not visit the flagship store.

Saturday, June 18, time to head towards Boston after a leisurely morning/half day in Kennenbunkport. Any recommendations for cool sights along the way?

I'll spend two nights in Boston, just goofing off, maybe visit the Isabella Stewart museum, whatever I feel like. This will be my third year in a row visiting Boston. I will just wander the harbor area, eat cupcakes at Mike's Pastry and stroll the North End.
