Boston, LA, SF Fodorites?

So far it seems the NY and DC Fordorites are safe. What about those who live in the Boston, LA, or SF areas where the planes were departing and heading to before the hijacking?

Safe in Boston. My husband was in Colorado yesterday, and is currently driving back to Boston with co-workers. Apparently rental cars were in high demand.

He was to speak at a conference at which another speaker was the CEO of a company that was based in the WTC. No news on those employees.

My husband's co-worker was en route to LA yesterday morning. No one knows what flight she was on and she hasn't been heard from.

This tragedy is affecting people everywhere; I hope that all of our fellow Fodorites and their families are safe.

Boston native now living in New Hampshire, home of one of the pilots, and waiting like so many others to hear news of friends living and working in NYC...five young people from our small town all work in or near the WTC.

My husband and his co-workers travel to LA frequently on those two flights - thankfully no one yesterday. We anxiously await news of full passenger lists - Boston is a small town and we fear we will see familiar names. Close family in both NYC and DC all present and accounted for - we are counting our blessings - thanks so much for your concern.

Still here (to the chagrin of some, I'm sure). Like others, I'm anxiously awaiting news from friends in NYC and DC. And also experiencing some extreme anxiety for my in-laws who were scheduled to fly into JFK yesterday from Paris (finally heard from them!!) - something tells me that those six hours of waiting for their plane, when normal traffic resumes, will be the longest on record.

Also, one flight was from Newark. Hopefully the NJ/NYC fodorites are OK too.

Well, this is as of 1:30 est..a car has been found at Logan Airport with books in Arabic about flying planes..a dropped Logan security card in the area of the car and in the trunk were uniforms. It seems these idiots (I'll try to be kind) used their real names. The people at the desk did not pay attention that they were paying in cash, going one way and had Arabic names. A hotel has just been checked out by the FBI, but nothing there. A friend of minne, her daughters ster in-law is the Stewardess who was to fly with AA to L.A., but an emergency appointment with her dentist kept her off the plane. Logan Airport is closed indefinetely..I will fly, nothing is going to stop me. A friend works for TJ Maxx and they lost seven employees. I am old enough to remember FDR talking about Pearl Harbor, I can remember exactly where I was for that announcement, I can remember hearing about President Kennedy and now...again in my lifetime one more terrible tragedy for this country. We are a strong nation and we will rebound, we should all be angry, very angry. We should never let terrorists stop us from traveling. they may have destroyed buildings, but they cannot destroy my spirit. Somehow I want us all to sing and say "God Bless America"..we've opened our arms to everybody, the days of our being naive are gone..but our spirit is here.. Sorry to be preaching, but I'm pissed...and yet proud of us..

Really!!! Of course we are fine - unless we were on that plane, nothing happened in Boston. Psychologically scarred, maybe. Honssetly, what a silly question!!

Pissed and proud is exactly how we feel here in the Bay area. There is some evidence that a young man from here might have played a role in crashing the flight in Pennsylvania before it reached its goal. Son knows many who worked in the WTC and has taken the flight from Neward to SFO many times. One friend of his escaped from the 22nd floor of Tower 2. Thank God we haven't heard of any personal loss.

Well Joe, did you consider that someone might have been killed on the ground as part of the plan? It may be days before we realize the full ramifications of these acts.

Joe..nothing happened in Boston!!! Well, the family of the American Airlines pilot is mourning him.. a man who just donated 150 acres of farm land to the town he came from for conservation land. (Dracut) How about the 7 people from TJ Maxx, one just back from maternity leave, another getting married in a month..how about a woman I think on United who was a well known philantropist... How about two executives from electronic companies, about the other families left without a mother or father..how about childrenj who died before there parents..Two planes from Boston and hundreds of lives touched. And you think Boston is unscarred, I don't think so.. We are all touched whether we had a direct relative or friend.

Sorry for the confusion Joe. Next time I'll get Jeannie and Parrot Mom to write for me (Thanks Jeannie and Parrot Mom, you're the greatest). Since two of the hijacked planes left from Logan and were headed for California, I had concerns we may have lost some of our Fodorite friends and family.

The terrorists may have killed thousands of Americans, but they cannot kill the American spirit. We live in a wonderful country, full of wonderful and caring people.
