I am orgainising a party of 5 adults visiting Boston in September. We have accommodation in Beacon Hill. I have heard that it can take a LONG time to reach Boston from the Airport by road. As we are arriving on a Saturday afternoon. Any suggestions? I have read there is a water taxi from the airport - would this be any good to us with all our bags! Any help appreciated ....

Have gone in and out of logan many times. Mon-Fri it can take forever to get down to 2 lanes to cross the tunnel into Boston. Each time we did this on a weekend it took about less then 10 minutes. Comercial vehicles like taxi's can use the new Ted Williams tunnel which moves quickly.
If you want to take the boat, youn need to catch the bus that circles the airport and stops at the boat landing. A few minutes later it stops at the Boston Harbor Hotel, behind Quincy Market. Perhaps you could check your bags with bellman and walk around the marketplace if you arrive too early to check into your hotel.
I definitely would suggest taking a taxi. If you were arriving during rush hour Mon-Fri I would suggest taking alternate forms of transportation. It shouldn't be too crowded on a Sat afternoon and as stated above commercial vehicles use the new Ted Williams Tunnel to reach the city from the airport, all other vehicles are restricted from using this particular tunnel.
Enjoy your trip.
