It is possible. I believe the boat leaves from Naples(west coast) and takes approx. 3 hours. If you take it, let us know how it was.

I live a block from where the boat used to go out from in Naples, but haven't seen anything of it this year, and haven't seen any local ads for it. Many people used to arrive in the morning and find the trip cancelled, and worse, many took the boat to Key West to have the return cancelled and they were stuck there. Some was weather problems, but the rumor mill says that often it was because there weren't enough people, so they just decided not to go.

thank you for the update. we decided that we are driving to the Key from Ft. Lauderdale...considering the distance, what would be a good but fairly quick restaurant to eat dinner in along the way? sandwiches and salad okay, fresh, healthy fare...

The boat you are referring to is called the Key West Express and it leaves Marco River Marina, Marco Island. It has a galley and a bar. Time to Key West about 3 hours and it was around $80 one way. Their Florida # is 941-394-0014. Do a google search on Key West Express and you should get their web site.

Cape Air also flys down to the Keys from Ft. Lauderdale, Naples and Ft. Myers. Url is:www.flycapeair.com or 1-800-352-0714. They have same day, roundtrip rates if you are looking to day trip.
