Blue Ridge Parkway from I-26 to Cherokee
Hi. We will be traveling to Great Smoky Mountain National Park on Memorial Day weekend. We will be staying in Hendersonville overnight. How is the part of Blue Ridge Parkway from I-26 to Cherokee? Is it worth the time to do the drive? Or should we skip it and get to Great Smoky Mountain National Park as soon as possible. We were in Great Smoky Mountain National Park last year. There are some parts of the Park we did not get to see last year. Thanks for your help.

That end of the Parkway contains some of my favorite parts. - It will not take that much extra time (of course that depends on how much you stop also). There is just as much to do on & along the BRP as there is in GSNP, IMHO. http://www.blueridgeparkway.org/

Blus Ridge Parkway is a very pretty drive and you will enjoy it.There is alot of places to pull over and take it all in and great photos opps too. I love Cherokee. I think it is a pretty neat little town and the NC park side is very nice also. If you get a chance go to Clingmans Dome and Cades Cove. Both are very pretty. Have fun on your trip. I love the Smokies and go 3-4 times a year and going back in a couple of weeks. I was just there in April but its hard to stay away from such a beautiful place.

Cherokee is only rivalled by Gatlinburg for being schlocky. It is now a casino town whereas before it was bingo parlors and trained bears in front of the "Indian chief". It DOES have a true museum of the Cherokee tribe that is good, and it is an entrance to SMNP.
If you are fishermen, you can trout fish on the reservation waters for a fee--no NC trout license required and it is fun.The creeks are stocked but still hard to catch your fish. You can also "fish" at the fish hatchery for your fresh rainbow trout. They will clean them.
